WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE THEATRE

By Ivan Thompson, Operations Chairperson

Contracts have been signed for the following: removal of the sidewalk on the Clover Street side of the theatre. This work will eliminate the intrusion of water into the theatre. Proper grading of the cement walk will drain the water away from the theatre foundation and on to the Clover Street cache basin. The work also includes the addition of asphalt in the rear alley to drain water away from the theatre. Additional work will be done on the parking lot drainage system. All of this work should rid the theatre of any further external water problems.

A contract was signed to monitor the cracks that have developed at various locations in the theatre. Crack monitoring instruments have been installed in three areas to determine the extent of the settle rate of the building. These instruments will be monitored by the operations group over the next year to see what, if any, additional settlement is occurring and what, if anything, needs to be done. Hopefully, the building has completed its settlement. We will keep everyone informed as to the outcome.

When you pass the theatre on Second Street, you will notice that the large tree that was between the sidewalk and the curb has been removed per the city’s request.

We need a volunteer or volunteers to cut the grass at the rear of the building. It needs to be cut now and through out the summer. Please call either Ivan Thompson (233-7368) or Butch Kelley (878-5065) if you can help.

Fund Raising Campaign On-Going

By Fred Pumroy, Development Chairperson

Over 500 flyers have been distributed throughout the city to kickoff the Fund Raising Campaign. Valerie Murray, Butch Kelley, and Mitch Carey are meeting with several businesses to get their support for the Fund Raising Campaign. Jeff Jones modified our web-site ( FairbornPac.org ) and put links on his web-site ( efairborn.com ) in order to provide an easy method to donate funds. Please continue to support Jeff Jones as he has agreed to give FPACA 50% of the advertising revenue on the efairborn.com web-site that our members sponsor or are FPACA referrals. (Please refer to the article on the back page of this newsletter.)

Save Your Fulmer Cash Register Receipts

By Butch Kelley, Marketing Chairperson

Fulmer Supermarket’s Community Cash Program is trying to do their bit to help us reach our goal of renovating the theatre. They will donate one percent (1%) of your total checkout bill when you shop at one of their stores. This includes not only Fulmer stores, but also Great Scot Supermarkets, Eve Markets, and Bob and Carl’s Finer Foods. So when you shop at one of these stores, save your receipts and mail them to FPACA, P.O. Box 564, Fairborn, OH 45324. Just a little bit of effort on your part will go a long way to help achieve our goal of making the Fairborn Theatre, once again, a center for community activities and entertainment for all ages.

Save the Fairborn Theatre and support renovating the Theatre into an Arts and Cultural Center!

Project Description:

The Fairborn Performing Arts and Cultural Center will be a one of a kind facility. This historic structure is being restored as close as possible to its 1948 appearance while, at the same time, addressing current city building and safety codes. The Center will be the largest Arts and Cultural facility in Greene County, seating approximately 750 people. When the renovation work is complete the Center will have a professionally staffed, multipurpose facility used for performing arts, cultural, entertainment, educational, business, and community events.

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Valerie Murray, Chairperson

Our present membership roster includes: Individuals, Businesses, and Lifetime Members

Some of our committee members will be scouting for new business memberships in the coming month. We will be approaching non-member businesses with information on our progress and what still lies ahead. We will also be dropping by our present members to personally thank them for their support. The literature we will be distributing will include a membership application along with brochures and information on getting their own web-page.

When a member purchases an all-inclusive web-page, 50% goes to the Fairborn Performing Arts and Cultural Association. We feel this is a great way to increase not only our revenue, but our local merchants as well.

When you see one of our committee members, please take a few minutes of your time to hear the great leaps we have made and the bright future we have ahead in our community.

If you would like any more information regarding our membership drive or would like to participate, please call Valerie Murray at 231-6161. Thank you in advance for your kind support.
